What Causes Blood In Urine?

My father has had visible blood in his urine for 1 year. He has been going to a urologist over that time, but the urologist told him it is nothing! This is due to him having a TURP performed at the same time the blood appeared. Finally we went for a second opinion and they determined after extensive tests that he has bladder cancer! The doctor told him the mass is the size of a 50 cent piece. He is 84 is this a death sentence?

Hello and thank you for asking Healthcaremagic.

Probably the mass that you are talking about is an urothelial carcinoma (papiloma) and it all depends how many layers of the bladder it is spread.

It can be removed easily first through TUR-BT and than depending from the biopsi it might all end here,do some local chemotherapy or he might need to do a radical cystectomi. (removal of the bladder)

The biopsy after TUR-BT will show us how aggressive is this tumor.

If you have any other question, don't hesitate to contact me.
