What Causes Blood In Vomiting And Pain Below Ribs?
my husband has pain in his upper left quad just below the ribs towards center of the sternum and has been violently throwing up, with a very high concentration of blood in the vomit, he hasnt been able to consume anything other then fluids which also comes back up quickly. Theres no signs of internal bleeding as it doesn t have the appearance of coffee grounds, i have given him ginger gravol to try to ease the vomiting b ut even the thought of him consumng broth or toast turns his stomach, i m just wondering what else can be done or given that he would actually be able to consume that can help with the pain and vomiting. He is bringing up blood and along with the pain in the ulq i am concerned it coiuld possibbly be something more serious other then his GI

1) vomiting with content of red blood indicate disease in upper or middle part of esophagus with partial obstruction to esophagus as it not allow blood to go into stomach.
2) What are other symptoms? What is age of patient? Does difficulty in swallowing is for solid food or for liquids or for both?
3) Definitely, vomiting + blood content + difficulty in swallowing needs further investigation to find out cause for it.
4) Also he need to check hemoglobin level as blood loss is possible with high amount of blood in vomiting, with possibility of past episodes of minor bleeding which go down to stomach and may produce maroon-brown colored stool in past (melena). This indicate that bleeding episodes were since long before this major episode
