What Causes Bloody Saliva And Mouth Taste?

Hi there. For the last month or so I've noticed that I get a blood like taste in my mouth and when I spit there is blood in my saliva. It doesn't last all day, nor does it happen every day. I don't think it's from my lungs as it isn't there when i cough up phlegm, it's only in my saliva. Other than this I am fit and healthy and have no other symptoms of anything. Help!!

Hello,

Your symptoms seem to be related to gingivitis. Gingivitis is a common type of periodontal disease.

I recommend doing a complete blood count to exclude blood issues. I would recommend using an antiseptic mouthwash. I would also recommend rinsing your mouth with salty water.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
