What Causes Blurred Vision After A Cataract Surgery?
My mom is 65 and had cataract surgery with the implantation of a Toric IOL lens. 6 weeks after surgery she had the posterior capsulotomy performed due to blurry vision. Now a week after that surgery, she still has blurry vision. She is being sent for a second opinion to Wills Eye in Phila. What could be the problem? Thank you.
I reviewed your history. It seems from the history that your mother is having blurred vision following cataract surgery. The common causes for blurring of vision after cataract surgery are posterior capsule opacification and cystoid macular edema. Since she has undergone treatment for posterior capsule opacification cystoid macular edema needs to be ruled out. This can be done by fundus examination or by retinal examinations like fundus fluorescein angiography and optical coherence tomography. This can be treated by the use of anti-inflammatory drugs or steroids depending on the severity of the condition.
Hence I advice you to consult your doctor at Wills Eye hospital and do get back to me with the examination reports so that I can advice you further.
Hope this information is helpful to you.
Thank you With regards

What Causes Blurred Vision After A Cataract Surgery?
After posterior capsulotomy there could be possibility of rotation/displacement of toric IOL, which causes significant visual distortion. Or possibility of CME - edema of macular portion of retina following posterior capsulotomy/surgery itself. Well consult at Wills, have thorough evaluation and timely treatment. Regards
