Hi,I am Neethu Vipin (Dietitian & Nutritionist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am a 44 year old male. I don t smoke, drink occasionally. I am 5 10 and about 230. I have body cramps all the time but sometimes I get these spasms for lack of a better word in my stomach area that are almost unbearable. This area balls up as hard as a rock and when one hits all I can do is throw my body back as far as I can while pushing in on the fist sized knotted up area. I am a veteran and have had the VA run tests but so far they have no clue. Also, I had weight loss surgery about 15 years ago not sure this has anything to do with it but thought I should mention it. Any thoughts would be most appreciated. Thank you,
Hello and thank you for your question. Cramping in general is often caused by relative dehydration or lack of some vitamin or mineral. Make sure you are drinking at least 2 liters of water daily and take a multivitamin/multimineral supplement daily. Avoid caffeine. If you have not already done so a trial of omeprazole for reducing stomach acid would be something to try for a week or so to make sure you are not having stomach ulcer. If the omeprazole is helpful continue it for 6 weeks. Regards, Dr. Robinson
