What Causes Boils And Sores In Private Parts Of Elderly Woman?

My mother is wheelchair dependant, she was in pain 2 wks ago, and went to the er, found out she had a boil and some sores on her underparts, boil on her lower back. She in a wheelchair for heirnated & bulging disks. Anyhow, i find out from the friend that took her that they also said she may or maynot be showing signs of mrsa. I am 25 wks pregnant, I have a 2 yr old, and we are going over thier for easter dinner. Im a little freaked out about it, not sure how to confront her about it. What if she forgets to wash her hands cooking, she isnt taking any precautions, she is acting like nothing is wrong, she washes her clothes with her husbands and my 11 yr old brothers along with my sister and her 10 mth olds clothes. Should I be concerned>? Im worrying my self sick over this and just dont know how to handle this kind of situation. Thank You! and god Bless!

Hello,
Welcome to HCM.
I understand you concern.
Your mother is affected with "decubitus ulcers". This occurs to a bedridden person or wheelchair dependent person when who is not able to move and remains in same position for long time. They can be infected to give rise to abscess and non healing ulcers with pus discharge.
Here, she should understand that she has to keep hygiene in all possible manner for well being herself and her family. She should wash her hands after touching the ulcer and before cooking food with a liquid hand wash or a soap. Otherwise there is a change of infection leading to diarrhea.
You need to keep her ulcers & boils clean and dry. You can apply antibiotic ointment or powder over the ulcers & boils. You should change her position frequently so that she is not in a same position for long time on wheelchair.
If she is having discharging ulcers or boils, you should wash her clothes separately as you are having small children of 10 month and 11 years. After washing her clothes (especially underclothes), You can soak them in half bucket water with 5-10 ml of dettol solution and than rinse and dry.
If ulcers & boils are healing than you should consult your doctor.
I hope this will be helpful.
Take care.
