What Causes Boils?

hi im britney im 20 and have a son who's 8 months as of 8-18-2011 he jus randomly grew a boil on his buttock and i remember my aunt sittin him on hard stairs but didnt think nothin of it do u think it came from sitting him on them hard stairs? n just keep clean with warm towl on it?
