What Causes Bowel Incontinence And Excessive Weight Loss?

Hello, My question is for my spouse. He is 69 years old and for the past several months he has episodes when he cant get to the bathroom quick enough and has uncontrollable bowel movements. He is a diabetic and a cigarette smoker. Also for the past few weeks in is losing weight without dieting. He works a part time job as a security officer but he stays tired all the time, has no appetite, and has been on antibiotics and Prednisone for sinus infection and pleurisy. He is over the sinus infection and pleurisy but continues to lose weight and blood sugars are still high. Does he need to see his family doctor for these symptoms or what could be causing these symptoms. Thank you.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

If this is due to an infection, then the symptoms can be managed with Tab Metronidazole twice in day for five days. It is just on tentative basis. Second it can be due to diet also so try to change the diet.

Thank You!
