Hi,
Almost all women have a degree of breast asymmetry to some extent, may be in size, shape or droopiness of the breast. If this asymmetry is massive, then it may be difficult to find an underwear that
fits, There may be neck, shoulder or
back pain due to difference in weights in two sides.
The posture of child may also be defective in an effort to balance the body weight, particularly, bending the body to one side or bending the body forward. The child may also have psychological consequences due to this asymmetry. In these cases, the child needs to be treated. Fortunately, Breast masses are very rare in pediatric patients. There is no lab test for breast asymmetry and diagnosis is made by child herself and confirmed by clinical examination.
Treatment is generally by surgery. When treating the children for breast asymmetry, it is important to realize, that in the same child, breasts can develop at different age. Hence before doing any surgical intervention, it is important to wait till the breasts have completely developed.
More important is not the diagnosis of breast asymmetry, but it is more important, that a careful assessment is made, as to how the breasts are different and which operation or sequence of operations is needed to treat the condition of individual patient.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
