What Causes Breathlessness Which Worsens After Drinking Alcohol?

I ve felt breathless on and off for a few months, it seems to be worse if I ve drunk alcohol (even a small amount like one or two beers). Last year I had some blood tests taken for a different reason and everything was absolutely fine apart from a very low folate level.

Hello!

Thank you for asking on HCM!

Regarding your concern, I would explain that your symptoms could be related to low blood pressure or a lung disorder.

I recommend consulting with your attending physician for a physical exam and some tests:

- a cardiac ultrasound to examine your heart structure and function and exclude possible heart failure
- a chest X ray study and respiratory function tests to exclude a lung disorder
- vitamin B12 plasma levels.

A close monitoring of your blood pressure is also helpful to exclude possible hypotension.

You should discuss with your doctor on the above issues.

Hope to have been helpful!

Kind regards,

Dr. Iliri
