What Causes Brown, Compact And Waxy Stool?

Hello, I have been having unusual looking stools with lots of mucous- looking worm like projections. The stool itself is very compact , brown, and VERY WAXY. ( like soft candle wax that then hardens). I also now have the same symptoms on my scalp-- very, very greasy & waxy. ( using Nizoral shampoo- helps for one day and I am right back where I started. Can you advise? ( ps. I am pharmacist, so you can speak technically with me. Thanks.) JLW

Hi.
Thanks for your query.
You have 2 different issues.
One: the stools which are waxy, brown, compact and lots of mucus, looking worm like projections.
This can be due to some problem with colon as it secretes mucus.
I would advise you to take a 5 day course antibiotic and metronidazole and probiotics after the sample of stool for tests are given for getting a better diagnosis. If there is not any relief, to go for colonoscopy and further tests to ascertain the causes and get proper treatment.

Your second problem is related to the scalp which is waxy and greasy for which you are using Nizoral shampoo. This can be due to seborrhoic dermatitis. I think in such a case an opinion of a Dermatologist can be of great help in diagnosis and treatment.
