What Causes Brown Discharge In Periods?
Hi, I have been on OCPs for almost five and a half years... on Saturday my boyfriend and I had protected intercourse using spermicide lubricant as well. I only have three days left before finals in my second year in college and this time is very stressful. I have been staying up late (2/3am), eating whatever I can get my hands on which includes a lot of sugary treats. This Tuesday I noticed some lite brown discharge and recently today only a very small spotting. Could the stress, unusual diet, and rougher sex be the cause??

The brown vaginal discaharge can be due to few causes n your case.
- The irregualr routine/stress( both physical & mental),
- The rough sex/ the spermicide lubricant may have an irritant local effect,
- Possibility of dropping OC pill- in present stage of hurry & worry In such a case, you have to start with new pack of OC on 5th day of periods. .
* But in case you are persistent & regular in taking your oral pills- Please don't worry. The spotting & brown discharge you have may remain for a couple of days, Be careful about local hygiene.
* In case you had dropped your oral OC.pill, bleeding may continue as an early period due to withdrawal of OC.
* in case bleeding brown discharge & spotting is accompanied by back ache, pain in lower abdomen- you may need some antibiotic / anti inflammatory course with your doctor's consultation.
* After finishing with your finals you should consult your doctor for continuation of OC or need of a break with other contraceptive - for 5 & half years of continuous OC needs it.Thanks
