Hello, and I hope I can help you today.

If you have a coil (IUD) in place and are pregnant, and have a high fever (your most concerning symptom) your symptoms may be caused by an infection in your uterus from the coil and it is extremely important you have a medical evalution right away and have it removed. If the pregnancy is infected as well, you may have condition called a septic abortion that can spread infection even into your blood requiring IV antibiotics for treatment.

Even if you already have an upcoming appointment to have the coil removed, if you take your body temperature with a thermometer and it is over 101 degrees Fahrenheit or 38.5 degrees Celsius, you should seek emergency medical care as women who have a severely infected uterus not only may lose the pregnancy but can have complications requiring admission to the hospital and in the worst cases, risk losing their uterus due to uncontrollable infection or bleeding.

So again, I want to re-iterate my extreme concern about your condition and if you truly have a fever along with the pain and bleeding you should seek immediate medical care without waiting for your scheduled appointment.

I hope that you take my advice and seek medical care promptly, and that you are able to receive proper treatment to get better soon,

Dr. Brown
