What Causes Brown Vaginal Discharge?

Good day doctor, I m writing this on behalf of my girlfriend. Her period ended last week Monday being the 29th of September like 3 days after her period we had sex for like 3 consecutive days and she used a morning after pill. Suddenly yesterday which happens to be like 2days after we last had sex she started to have a brownish discharge from her vagina and then today it s normal red blood bleeding. Wanted to know what might be cause as we are very scared. Thanks doctor in anticipation of a response.

Hello.

The brownish discharge that she is having can be a side effect of the morning after pill. This is a high dose hormonal pill and can cause such a withdrawal bleeding.

Hope I have answered your query.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,

Dr. Rakhi Tayal, OBGYN
