What Causes Brown Vaginal Discharge?

hello..I am 25 year old lady. Last night I had brown discharge from my vagina with little abdominal cramps. I am not pregnant and my last period was on 15th of this month(May). what should be the cause of this vaginal brown discharge? I am worried. please help.
