What Causes Brown Vaginal Spotting Post Unprotected Intercourse?

Me and my girlfriend had unprotected sex last july 16 2017 at around 1am. We bought morning after pills and she took it 2 hours after having sex. She got her period a week after taking the pills, which is exactly her expected day of period. (But im not sure if that was washing out of the blood due to the pills). After 6 weeks yesterday august 25 2017, she had brown spotting and today august 26 2017 she woke up at 5am with a really bad cramp but no period. Is she pregnant? Or what? What is the meaning of that? Thanks so much answer asap pls :(

Hi there,
After going through your query, I am of the opinion that:
1) Taking a morning after pill can delay the next period.
2) However, it is not 100 percent effective in preventing pregnancy.
3) No periods could indicate a small chance of pregnancy even if she had a normal period before that.
4) My suggestion is that you get a pelvic ultrasound and a urine pregnancy test done which will confirm whether there is pregnancy as well as diagnose a cause for amenorrhoea.

I hope this was helpful.
Regards,
Dr. Shikha Shah
