What Causes Bruise And Itchiness On The Skin While On Trazadone?

I have been taking the medication Trazadone (50mg at bedtime) for the last three weeks. It has been successful in decreasing my agitation and anxiety as well and helping make my sleep routine better. However, every evening around the hours of 5:00 p.m. through 7:00 p.m., I start itching at some point on my body. It lasts anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour and a half. I have ended up with bruises where the itching sensation is along with broken skin and open sores where I have tried to get the itching to stop. I have tried allergy medication, hydrocortisone cream, body lotion, rubbing the area with a cold, wet wash cloth, and of course scratching, but nothing seems to help. It usually just stops on its own. I have read the side effects list for this medication and it doesn t list itching, without an allergic reaction, as a symptom on its own. This is really the only thing that has changed in my daily routine that I can think of that has occurred during this time frame. Could this medication be the cause of this itching? And if so why would it happen around the same time every day? And lastly, could you suggest something to ease the itching sensation without me causing the damage to my skin that I have mentioned above? Thank you in advance for your help. General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Allergic reactions usually appears in short interval after taking medicines. However, delayed reactions has been observed with some medicines. So in your case we can confirm the reaction only by replacing Trazodone with other anti-anxiety medicine. If reactions disappears after discontinuing then we can surely place it in causative factor.

So consult your treating physician and ask to replace with another medicine. Corticosteroid cream and Levocetrizine will be sufficient for the reaction.

Hope I have answered your query.
