What Causes Bruises On The Shin After A Hit With A Baseball?
I was hit in the shin with a baseball 6 days ago about 4 inches below my knee. There is bruising down my whole shin and there is a yellowish swollen area on the spot where I got hit by the baseball. It s soft and doesn t really hurt when I touch it. There is no pain when I walk, do you think it just takes time or is infected?

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement, Dr. Saurabh Gupta's Response
Hello, Thanks for your query. From description it seems to be soft tissue injury .Bruise is due to rpture of microvasculature. You need an x-ray to rule out any bony injury. I suggest you to consult an orthopaedician nearby for a detailed examination. You may get the X-ray of the area affected under his/her guidance.Beside icing and elevating it, you can take anti-inflammatory drug like motrin to reduce pain and inflammation. Avoid putting weight and rest well.
I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query. Take care
