What Causes Bruising And Swelling Of Hip After An Injury In Spite Of Icing
Hello, Dr. I fell biking two weeks ago and bruised my hip. It was a 6 inch bruise in diameter but has gone away. Today it is swollen and squishy and painful. I am an athlete with lots of knowledge about getting better from decades of physio visits. I have been using a foam roller to massage the area and now icing it, but I am surprised that it is swollen like it is. What do you think.

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement, Dr. Saurabh Gupta's Response
Hello, Thanks for your query.
From description , this swelling most probably formed due to haematoma formation (collection of blood) which might get fibrosed or calcified. It will take few weeks to months to get disappear. I suggest you to consult an orthopaedician nearby for a detailed examination of swelling. You may get the X-ray of the area affected under his/her guidance. Meanwhile give hot fomatation over it, You can take Tablet Motrin 1 tablet with food as and when required (upto 4 tablets daily).
I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query. Take care
