What Causes Bump Like In The Thyroid Cartilage?

Hello, since 2 days ago, my throat cartilage/thyroid cartilage has been feeling very weird. Specifically, on the right 1/3 down I feel a little bump. It doesn t seem like a bump has formed, more like the thyroid seems to be out of place/dislocated. It makes a shift/pop when I swallow. I had no trauma to cause this. Probably happened when I yawned because I recall my throat feeling out of place when I yawned sometimes in the past and I had to fake yawn again to open up the muscles and close it again slowly. I can shift that part and put it back to place, only to have it popped out again immediately. I ve done a lot of research in the last few days and have found that there are mostly surgical procedures for similar larynx situations, but I m not looking to get surgery. Any advice or word on what this may be?

ENT Specialist 's  Response
This typically sounds like a 'laryngocele'- an air- filled sac coming out of the airway through the gap between the thyroid cartilage and the hyoid bone, higher up near the chin.
If you are not involved in an activity that includes blowing or exerting a lot of pressure on the airway- such as in glass blowers and trumpet players, I strongly suggest you get yourself thoroughly evaluated (by an ENT specialist) to make sure there is no growth in the airway that is blocking the mouth of a mucus gland and allowing air to be trapped within.
If the swelling is small you could get away without surgery but it's still important to determine the cause, for which you may have to go under anesthesia at least.
In good hands, the results of surgery for such problems are excellent.
