What Causes Burning Sensation In The Lower Back?

I have a a burning pain in my lower right side of my back. When I cough or strain or blow my nose, it feels like the tissue is ripping apart. I have no other back pain at all. I had a complete hip replacement on this side in 2008. It started about a week ago and seems to be covering a wider area. Sometimes it almost feels numb but is not.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

You are describing what we would call an exertional radiculopathy which is the same as a "pinched nerve" brought on by the things you mention (i.e. exertion and force). When you don't do those things everything seems quiet otherwise, no. I would recommend a full neurological evaluation to isolate the level at which this compression or nerve root irritation is occurring to discover then, what the options may be.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
