OBGYN 's  Response
Hello,
Thanks for letting us know your health concern. In the current scenario, the possible causes for the burning sensation, redness and swelling of the labium are- 1. rough intercourse, 2. infection of the vagina/cervix/ lower urinary tract, 3. use of over-sized tampons. Further evaluation includes a local examination, urinalysis, blood counts, swabs from the vagina and cervix and a pap smear, tests for STD and a sonogram of the pelvis. To get temporary relief before you see your doctor, you can apply ice packs to the part. Do not douche or use strong soap solutions. Avoid tampons. Hope this helps.
