Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
HI! I was recently given a prescription for .25 mg of Xanax. I have only taken about 5 pills since I got them and I am now having belching, mucous in throat and tight feeling in my esophagus when I swallow food. I can feel it going down and it s uncomfortable. Is this just coincidence or could be a side effect of the Xanax? I ve never had trouble like that before not even acid or indigestion!
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advise.
According to my experience these type of side effects are not associated with xanax. Xanax usually causes drowsiness, headache and muscle weakness. So please consult physician for proper throat examination as symptoms are suggestive of throat infection/inflammation.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further. Regards Dr. Hiren
