Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am a 76 year old female, generally active and in good health with the exception of suffering with angina. A stent was fitted approx 4 years ago and I take relevant medication for the condition. A couple of weeks ago I suffered a sharp, needle like pain to my left calf - almost like a bee sting - which occurred once more and then went away. There were no other symptoms.Last night the same thing reoccurred only several times over the period of a couple of hours. Upon observation I was aware of an irregular pulsating in the region of my calf - almost a small twitch. There is no redness, swelling or bruising and no continuing pain today. Any ideas?
You mentioned you are suffering from angina with a stent in your heart which indicates heart pumping maybe sometimes slow. Because of this, sometimes blood will not be pumped well to all peripheral extremities at the proper amount. Hence, nutrient supply may be less, ultimately due to that, cramping and twitching happens.
To get out of this problem you need to change your lifestyle by adding walking, every day 5kms at a slow pace. Avoid non-veg foods. Take more of vegetables. Do more of pranayama and meditation. Do exercises that improve your calf muscles flexibility.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
