General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
HI, cervical spondilitis can occure due to trauma, stress to cervical spine or degenerative changes in cervical spine due to age, calcium deficiency, Vitamin D deficiency. The pain is treated symptomatically by pain killers/anti inflammatory drugs like Dolonex. But the symptoms are to be managed by physiotherapy for neck /hand muscles so as to strengthen the surrounding muscles tocontrol the spinal lesion with muscular support. Certain lifestyle changes like avoiding neck flex-ion / avoiding carrying weight on head, with calcium/vit. D supplements of diet will add to the results of physiotherapy. Spinal surgery is needful in non responding patients. * Taking tablet like Dolonex continuously, may lead to gastritis/ gastric ulcers/ urinary problems. It has to be an emergency aid ,otherwise maintained by physiotherapy. Thanks.
