What Causes Change In Nature Of Periods?

After attempting to conceive in October of 2011, and testing negative five weeks later. My monthly flow went from 5 days heavy to barely there for a day. I'm wondering if this could mean I am pregnant afterall? If not will the sudden change in my period affect my ability to conceive?
