hi, i have a wheeze and a cough periodically. i m taking omeprazole40mg nightly to reduce acid. i have a feeling in the center of my chest that s causing me to cough with no mucus appearing. i m a non smoker. just recently had an upper endoscopy that was normal to rule out any abnormalities. i m going to see a pulmonary dr. tomorrow. i m 76 and otherwise in good health. i take atorvastatin, levothyroxine, and 0meprazole and a baby aspirin. also, do any of these drugs cause my condition?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Your cough and wheezing may be related to acid regurgitation into the esophagus ( food pipe). In addition to Omeprazole a few life style changes would help. Loose weight if you are overweight. Eat a light dinner and take it 2 hours before your bed time. Elevate the head end of the bed with two blocks so that you sleep on an incline. You might also take a prokinetic agent which also would help reduce the reflux. Baby aspirin can produce wheezing in those who are aspirin sensitive. Atorvastatin , levothyroxine and Omeprazole are less likely to cause wheezing.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
