What Causes Chest Pain And Breathlessness While Laying Down?

My son is 40 yrs old. He has problems sometimes catching his breath when he lays down and has sharp pains in several different areas of his chest. It doesn t seem to be a heart problem as of right now. Any ideas of what his problem could be? Thanks, Bonnie
