Hi,I am Dr. Andrew Rynne (Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 81yr father woke up early with chills and frequent urinating. He later developed lower back pain, which he s had all day. The chills have stopped as well as the frequent urinating, but the pain persists when moving or walking. Nothing done previous to this as far as lifting or heavy work.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Your father might be having Urinary track infection and renal stone. UTI causes fever with chills and frequent urination. Lower back pain may be due to renal stone.
Following investigations may help you:
1)USG abdomen pelvis
2)urine routine and microscopy
3)urine culture and sensitivity
4) Renal function test
After these investigations, if the report comes positive then take antibiotics (Ciproflox/Nitrofurantoin), Syrup Cital and tablet Voveran SR for pain will help you.
Ask him to drink plenty of fluid. I suggest you to take antibiotics only after investigations. Consult an Urosurgeon.
Hope this will help you.
Thank you
