What Causes Choking Feel In The Throat After Taking Joint Pain Medication?
I took an OTC joint medication yesterday, and for the rest of the day it felt like it was lodged in my throat. Whatever happened, I haven t been able to swallow solids since yesterday, and today I ve begun having problems swallowing liquids. Whatever I ingest, eventually comes back, but it never gets past that point in my throat where it feels like something is stuck.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Noted the history and understood your concerns. My thoughts and suggestions are as below. OTC joint medications can be stuck in the throat as no such cases have been reported in spite of millions of people taking oral medications daily. Hence the cause of your feeling of something stuck in throat and then pain on swallowing indicate that there may be an inflammatory problem in the throat such as granular pharyngitis, ulceration and so on. To know the exact cause I would advise you the following: Consult an ENT Surgeon for clinical evaluation, ENT Endoscopy to know the exact cause so that a proper management can be done. Stop taking the OTC medications and also get a PPI like Omeprazole and an antacid.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
