What Causes Chronic Cough And Fever That Persist Despite Medication?
My mother aged 65 yrs. She had a chronic cough for last one month and then fever (ranges from 100 to 100.5). She took AZOMAX for 5 days and then Lyflox 750 mg for 5 days. Still her fever doesn't go down. her fever goes high in evening i.e. 100.5. Her Chest x-ray and CBC/TIBC test is normal
Hi, Thanks for choosing HCM. I have gone through your query, your mother is having persistent cough even after two courses of different antibiotics. The probable causes are 1.Tuberculosis,her age and evening rise of temperature favor the possibilities of TB. 2.Allergic cough. 3.Chronic bronchitis. 4.GERD You should consult a pulmonologist and detailed evaluation may be needed to find out the cause.Which may include chest X-ray,blood investigations, sputum examination,PFT (pulmonary function test) and more. Based on clinical examination and investigations pulmonologist will make a correct diagnosis and treat you accordingly. Im of the opinion that there is nothing to worry and your mother will be alright. Hope I have addressed your concern. Wishing you all the best.
Thank you.
