my two year old has had a cough for over 4 weeks. he gets them quite often (at least every 4 months or so). he is generally well but did have pheumonia last december and was hospitalised. he has alos had a chest infection when he was about 11 months old.
Need not to worry. I would suggest you to consult pulmonologist without any delay. Doctor may order blood test, throat swab test and get an x-ray of the chest and Immunoglobulin G levels checked for further treatment.
Doctor may prescribe antibiotics along with decongestants and mucolytic agents. Do warm saline gargles with pinch of salt water. Take expectorants and steam inhalation and take rest. You should avoid hot, sharp and spicy foods.
