What Causes Chronic Fatigue And Memory Loss In An Elderly Person?

My Mom is 89 years old. Up until 5 months or so ago she was perfectly healthy. Now has chronic fatigue, some memory loss. Doesn t want to get out of bed-- too tired. Winded just taking a bath. Doctor says High blood pressure under control Has a thyroid condition also under control. Not dehydrated. Had low sodium but that seems to be under control too. Not sure what is wrong with her. Very usual for a woman who always was independent. Not sure what to do for her. PCP thinks it is just her age. I have doubts-- this is definitely not my Mom.

Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern for your mom.
Senile dementia is known to affect elderly age group, which is known to cause memory loss.
Chronic fatigue is mainly caused due to decreased appetite and intake of less calories in the diet and may be associated with neurological.
These could be the reasons why she is having the complaints.
It would be better if you get her examined thoroughly by a Neuro-physician and get her treated accordingly.
Taking some drugs without proper assessment might not help her much.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
