My son has a cyst on his brain. I was told that it is about the size of a quarter. it is near his forehead and I beleive it was a little to the left. He has migraines real bad and It causes him not to be able to work certain types of jobs. I want to know what can b done about his condition and if this is what is causing his migraines? he is 22 yrs old thanks
It would have been useful if you had provided the imaging report so that we could judge about the nature of the cyst and possible effects on surrounding tissue. However from the limited info you provide I would say that it is highly unlikely that the cyst is responsible for the headaches, most cysts are arachnoid cysts which cause no symptoms and need to treatment.
As for what to do about headaches he should be started on preventive medication. There are many classes of drugs used for migraine prevention, like anticonvulsants, antidepressants and antihypertensives, in order to make a choice a proper interview with the patient is necessary to clear the details of the headache and its classification.
For that it is advisable to be hooked up with a neurologist, in particular as migraine is a chronic condition and he might need periodic follow up visits from time to time.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
