What Causes Cold, Cough And Fever After Swimming?

Hello, I've been wondering why my son tends to get a cold and cough accompanied with slight fever everytime after a swim.He might not be allergic to clorine I suppose.I am thinking in terms of heat loss and the outside cool air,the body is unable to adjust to the temperature changes . Is it a valid reason?

Hi,
Welcome to HCM,
Yes this could be allergy to chlorine or a viral infection...give him paracetamol and antihistaminic syrup according to his weight...wish him a speedy recovery...

Hello,

Thank you for asking at HCM.

I went through your history and would like to make suggestions for your son as follows:

1. Chlorine in swimming pool water is irritant and can cause running nose and irritation in respiratory tract. Please note that this is not "allergy".

2. Sometimes sudden temperature changes associated with swimming can also cause reflex respiratory symptoms.

3. If he tends to develop cough-cold-fever a few days after swimming, I would also think of possibility of infection.

Thank you for asking at HCM.

If you have any further query, please feel free to ask at HCM.

Wish your son the best of the health ahead.

Thank you & Regards.
