Hi,
Infection of chlamydia is generally treated with a course of antibiotics which may be
Azithromycin, Doxycycline or
Ciprofloxacin. The antibiotic may take about 7 days to completely eliminate the infection. Before completion of 7 day period after start of antibiotic, any unprotected sex may pose a risk for getting the fresh infection, particularly if the sex partner is having this infection. Also, you are capable of passing this infection to your partner during this period.
Also mixed infection with other
STD may be another possibility, which might have to be treated also. Though resistance of mostly used antibiotics to chlamydial infection is very rare, still to be pretty sure, course of Ciprofloxacin for 7 days, course of Doxycycline for 10 days or a single dose of Azithromycin is recommended. To be pretty sure, a single dose of 1 Gm. of Azithromycin along with doxycycline BD doses for 10 days may be given. Treatment of the sexual partner is also of utmost importance, whether she is having symptoms or not.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
