What Causes Constant Coughing And Clearing Of Throat?

Hi I am 46 yr old female. I have smoked for 36 yrs. I have a weird cough that exceeds the boundaries of a regular smokers cough. I was also in a recent situation where a sociopath was poisoning me. With what, I don t know. Every since I suspected being poisoned, I developed a horrible cough. At times I would throw up there would be so much mucus in my throat, I couldn t get all out quick enough. (it would gag me). The substance that I cough up is very oily....like a sieve. Of course, now that I m away from the abuser, the cough has lessoned, but still bad enough that I won t go out in public. I m constantly having to clear the airway and getting dry, plastic like chunky s off of my vocal cords. Trying to get the chunky loose sometimes makes me almost pass out, because it takes so much energy to loosen it up so I don t choke on it once it s loose...then I have to keep pushing air outward from my lungs until it comes out. It s exhausting. Btt almost everytime prior to gacking out the chunky (as I call it) there is this constant flow of endless oily substance first, and now I fear I have reached a new level of whatever this is because the oily stuff is constant now, and my throat is never clear. We have ruled out allergies and I saw a Pulmonary Specialist of whom ran all the tests and we determined that I have a mild case of RAD, but that does not address the current issue with this horrible substance I keep coughing up. It s all located right at the top of the upper respiratory. Almost like it s in the airway right below the vocal cords. I have had 3 pulmonary Embolisms in that same area...I wonder if they didn t do some damage? None of my docs are taking me seriously. This is getting so bad...I can t eat or drink or have a normal breath, because either food, fluid or saliva gets lodged in that area and I choke a lot. Just breathing out sometimes, a little chunk of the oily stuff shoots out of my mouth. It s disgusting. Please...I m desperate for answers. I fear this might be serious and if not detected or fixed soon, it ll turn into something really bad and I ll loose my vocals or my throat......something. I can only best describe the oily substance as like how a clown pulls the endless string of scarfs from his sleeve....that s how it is with me. It never ends, until I have to over exert myself to stop it for a second or cut it off.

Hello,

Since you have a history of smoking the symptoms from which you are suffering presently are of chronic bronchitis. Though other medical conditions like COPD, Asthma & pneumonia, etc can also present with similar symptoms.

You are suggested to get clinically examined & have pulmonary function tests, CT, chest X-Ray & blood tests done.

You may need bronchodilators, deriphylline, mucolytics(bromohexine), antivirals, anti-inflammatory & oxygen therapy, etc.

Get treated at the earliest. Mucus in the lungs is commonly due to excessive smoking, lung damage, pollution, dust, smoke, allergy, etc.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
