Hello,
This is Dr. Papaqako answering your question.
Thanks for posting your query to HCM.
Cough can be a problem of various causes affecting the lungs.
-- If you have signs of a viral infection, and your general condition is good, you have no fever, and cough is present for not more then 3 weeks...then the cough is a normal reaction of the lungs to clear the secretions. Should need just symptomatic treatment.
-- If you are
wheezing and the cough is dry (without sputum) and causes you
shortness of breath, then asthma may be a possible diagnoses, and simbacort is a good treatment. If that is not helping after 1 week that you are using it, then maybe you should consider seeing your doctor again, so he prescribes something else also (like
Ventolin inhaler of oral
steroids according to your physical examination results).
--Other causes of bad cough, lasting more then 3 weeks may be post nazal drip, a complication of a viral infection into
pneumonia, smoking may make coughing worse and last longer, ect.
Hope this helps,
Take care.
