What Causes Constant Pain In My Upper Sternum?

Hello, I am a 31 year old female, approx 130 pounds. For the past six months I have been having constant pain on the left side of my sternum (sp?), that circles my breast both on the top and bottom. With this I also have shortness of breath, dizziness, and headaches. I have had several ekgs, and blood work that came back normal. The echocardiogram showed MVP. My doctor says it is costocondritis but I take Aleve everyday and use IcyHot at night and it doesn't seem to be helping. Is this muscular pain or something else? Thanks.

Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
Yesterday, possibility of costochondritis is more in your case.
No need to worry for heart diseases as your all cardiac reports are normal.
Along with drugs, you should also follow these lifestyle modifications for better symptomatic relief in costochondritis.
1. Avoid movements causing pain.
2. Avoid bad postures in sleep.
3. Avoid heavyweight lifting and strenuous exercise.
4. Apply warm water pad on affected areas.
5. Wear rib belt or chest belt to prevent mobilization of painful areas.
Don't worry, you will be alright with all these.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.
