What Causes Constant Stomach Ache In Child?

My five year old constantly complains of a tummy ache right behind her belly button. She tells me it s like someone punched her. We have tried doing the dairy free approach and nothing. It happens at all times during the day...even at night. She s not constipated. Any suggestions?

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

Before commenting about the causes, it would be better if we know about the duration of abdominal pain and any aggregating or relieving factors.

Any night awakening because of abdominal pain?

Any recent history of viral infections?

Any altered bowel habits or blood-tinged stools?

Her weight and growth pattern?

Her schoolings and absenteeism?

Anyone in the family has migraine history?

I know you are worried, but we need these details before commenting on the causes. I would advise you to visit a pediatrician to examine your child's tummy to rule out any surgical causes.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nirubhan Bharathy, Pediatrician
