What Causes Constipation After Gallbladder Removal Surgery?
Mother is 92 just got over double pnaminun in Dec. had gallbladder removed last year , done fine. But the hernia in her groin has gotten bigger since then, Size of an med. apple and hard on the right. I think it is from her coughing so hard while in the hospital. Did not know till she already had be en back to Dr. in Jan. It takes about a month to get in with her Dr.Seem to cause more gas and there seems to be constipation more with it. Should i be concerned now She already had a 6 month checkup in April coming up with blood work.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
I do not think her cholecystectomy is anyway related with the constipation. Her constipation appears to be related with her groin hernia although there could be other factors as well like decreased fluid intake, low fibre in her diet and weakness in her colon which we term as colonoic inertia. i would suggest that she should get her hernia operated as there is a high probability that she might go into complete intestinal obstruction which is quite dangerous in this age group.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
