Hello,
Believe it or not, there is a new classification of
headaches known as
NEW DAILY PERSISTENT HEADACHE (
NDPH).
We believe it is more common than realized, however, it is probably highly underdiagnosed.
It is characterized by people who are in their 50's, generally male, and virtually all patients can point EXACTLY to the month, date, and year (sometimes the hour) at which these unremitting, continuous headaches which can be terrible or just moderate, or even mild.
But they are CONTINUOUS, DAILY, and tend not to respond to any particular medication.
They are very difficult to treat since we don't know their mechanism. They are NOT MIGRAINES but can have symptoms mimicking migraine headaches.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Dariush Saghafi, Neurologist
