Hello,
Having bleeding per vagina every time you are visiting the bathroom is quite normal. But stress can affect your hormone levels and contribute to heavy and
irregular vaginal bleeding or
irregular menstruation. Sometimes, heavy bleeding can be due to infection, an underlying medical condition, medication or hormonal imbalance, injury or trauma if sexually active or during self pleasuring.
In perimenopausal phase, the number of days between periods may change, get skipped altogether or bleeding may be unusually heavy or light. No worries, it isa normal physiological change. However, you are suggested to get clinically examined by a Gynae and a GP to rule out medical conditions that can cause or trigger your symptoms like
hypothyroidism, bleeding disorders, polyps, fibroids, cervicitis or
endometrial hyperplasia, etc.
If sexually active and having unprotected sex, it can be indicative of miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy, pregnancy, etc. Get required tests and investigations done like urinalysis (R/E and C/S), CBC,
Thyroid function tests, pregnancy test, USG, MRI, etc., so that detailed study can be done and treatment started at the earliest.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
