What Causes Continuous Spotting When Skipped Placebo For One Week?

I had asked my dr. if this was okay and got the approval, but now I m curious... I am on Sprintec birth control and skipped a placebo week in hopes that I could skip a period cycle for my cruise vacation. Unfortunately, I have been spotting for the whole two weeks on this pack. Will the next week of placebo pills hopefully fix this? Should I be concerned? Thanks!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Spotting and bleeding can occur in some women who take birth control pills back to back. It cannot be a hundred per cent assured that the spotting will stop of you continue the pill packet. However, if it is stopped, you will get the breakthrough bleeding which might be heavy ane last longer. So the best option is to continue with the already started pill packet now.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
