on tuesday at home I experianced a bout of diahrea ...little by little I began to feel possible seizure coming on. I went to hospital and electrolyte imbalance caused a small seizure/ convulsion. I was treated for an electolyte imbalance and sent home wednesday. I thought I had just bitten my bottom lip but then the top lip began to feel a little funny. It feels like a swollen lip on the bottom. ...now my left foot is feeling tingly I thought it was from exercise .. would pedialyte or something over the counter help this..I am taking gabapintyn for seizure disorder.this is my first seizure since 2009.
Hi. thanks for posting your question on HCM. There are two issues. First, electrolyte disturbance after diarrhoea will cause seizures only if you have fall in serum sodium levels known as hyponatraemia and only severe hyponatraemia can cause seizures. Secondly, if you are taking gabapentin for seizures already, it may be that either the dose is not sufficient for you. And some sort of intracranial pathology should also be ruled out. I mean that you should get reviewed your case and any current medications being used by you by a neurologist and get an MRI of brain done with epilepsy protocol.
