What Causes Cough After Coming In Contact With Paint Fumes?

I was at a friends house who was painting Wednesday with my son, we were there for two hours. We got home and he began coughing and has been coughing since is there reason for concern? Should I take him to the doctors or could the fumes irritated his airway?

I can understand your concern.
In my opinion, your children is mostly having bronchitis induced coughing.
Actually, any fume when inhaled can cause irritation and inflammation in the airways. This is known as bronchitis (inflammation of airways).
And this causes coughing.
So better to consult pulmonologist for your child and get done clinical examination of respiratory system.
He might need inhaled bronchodilator and inhaled corticosteroids (ICS) for the treatment of bronchitis.
Don't worry, he will be alright in 1-2 days.
