What Causes Cough And Sore Throat?

Ive had a pretty bad cough for almost four weeks now, Ive had phlegm, and I havent been able to keep much food down for a majority of me being sick. I do not have asthma, but there are times when I cant get any air into my lungs. My throat started feeling sore and almost like it has cuts inside of it today. Do you have any idea what might be wrong or what I shoukd take to get better?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello
Thank You for contacting HCM.

Due to sever throat congestion it has become difficult to swallow anything. I have seen a number of patients with similar complaints at my clinic. I would suggest:

>Take hot water in a cup, add 1 table spoon salt in it. Perform gargles(mouth wash) with it 4-5 times a day. It will give soothing effect.
> Amoxicilin/Clavulanic Acid as an antibiotic
> IF fever occurs then take acetaminophen for it.
> Diphenhydramine + Dextromethorphan for cough

AVOID:
> Cold water
> Oily & spicy food
> Drinks (of any kind)

Report to hospital if:
> Condition remain same after 2-3 days
> Any unusual symptom appears
> Condition deteriorates.
> There is difficulty in breathing.

Hope this answers your question. If you have additional questions or follow
up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy
to answer your questions. If you do not have any clarifications, you can

Wishing you good health.
