What Causes Cough Followed By Vomiting?

Every night after I lay down in bed I start coughing and to the point I puke. This has gone on for several years now and the last few night have been worse. I sleep with three pillows just to elevate my head so I don’t choke. What could this be from?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

You may be suffering from chronic gastro esophageal reflux disease. This may lead to acid enter into esophagus then to trachea may lead to erosion. The exact cause for this lax lower end of esophagus with raised abdominal pressure, etc. Use tablet Pantoprazole before breakfast for one week. Tablet Levosulfuride twice a day for five days. Eat less spicy food, avoid alcohol and smoking. Elevate the head end of the bed. If symptoms do not improve, please consult your physician or gastroentrologist, he will examine and treat you accordingly. Take care.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
