What Causes Cough With Respiratory Wheezing And Metallic Taste?
I recently was ill with a head cold. I started coughing up green colored mucus and was put on a Zpack. I have completed that about 2 weeks ago. I continue to have a cough with expiratory wheezing (sometimes inspiratory) and my proventil inhaler hasn't seemed to help. I am also starting to notice a metallic taste when I cough but I haven't actually visualized any blood in my sputum which is white now. Any suggestions?
Hi thanks for asking question. Here is few possibility for your case.
1.According to history you have cough with green sputum.if chest pain also associated with fever, we want to rule out pneumonia by chest x ray to see for consolidation. Pseudomonas infection can lead to green sputum so sputum culture will be helpful.
2.You might have viral infection induced bronchitis like condition . chest x ray useful.
3.The wheezing could be because of asthma. You might have asthma and viral infections can precipitate it.
To distinguish restrictive and obstructive cause pulmonary function test by spirometry useful.
4.Finally still your cause not clear then bronchoscopy can be done if needed to rule out other obstructive causes.
I hope you will understand my concern.
Wish you good health. Dr.Parth
