What Causes Coughing And Difficulty In Swallowing?
Hi. I ve been coughing for about a week and that one time I coughed so hard that i felt like something moved in my throat. It didn t hurt the same day, but when I woke up the next morning I couldn t swallow anything. It felt like someone had punch me in my adam s apple. Plus it feels like I have something stuck in my throat Do you have an idea of what it could be?
Noted your history about a hard cough that caused pain in throat the next day, feeling of someone has punched on Adam;s apple, something stuck in throat. Severe bout of coughing can cause the muscles spasm of the related muscles and edema. I would advise you the following in such a situation. Consult an ENT Surgeon urgently, Laryngo-pharyngoscopy to know the exact cause of the symptoms so that an appropriate management can be done. Voice rest. Liquid diet only. Plenty of oral fluids. Till then you can take an anti-inflammatory medication like Ibuprofen if it suits you. Sips of warm water frequently.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. T Chandrakant, General Surgeon
